Malignant mesothelioma - Mesothelial cell cancer

The defined Mesothelium sick is the protective tissue that covers the thoracic cavity, abdominal cavity and cavity around the heart and also produces a special lubricant fluid that allows the body’s internal organs to move about. Malignant mesothelioma can be defined as cancer of mesothelial cells that become abnormal and begin to divide without any order. The majority of mesothelioma patients have a history of exposure to asbestos.Types of malignant mesothelioma  or simply mesothelioma can be divided into 3 main types namely :- Epithelioid – Sarcomatoid – Mixed / Biphasic Among these, epithelioid is the most Frequent (50% to 70% of cases) and has the best chance of recovery. Type Sarcomatoid is seen in 7% to 20% of cases whereas the mixed / biphasic type is seen in 20% to 35% cells.

Approximately, ¾ of the total mesothelioma cases originated in the thoracic cavity (pleura) and is known as pleural mesothelioma. The cancer affecting the wall of the abdomen (peritoneum) is called peritoneal mesothelioma and affects the “sac as” space around the heart (pericardial cavity) is called pericardial mesothelioma. Mesothelioma sometimes also affects the covering layer of the testicles. However, the latter two types of cases are fairly rare. Diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. The mesothelium tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant mesothelioma (cancerous). So every time there are symptoms like shortness of breath, pain in the chest / belly or swelling of the abdomen, you should consult your doctor immediately. After the first radiographs and analyzes, the doctor can look inside the chest cavity (in case of pleural tumor) with an instrument called thoracoscope and the test is called thoracoscopy. In case of tumor in the peritoneum, the doctor can go for peritoneoscopy using a tool called peritoneoscope. Finally, if the abnormal tissue is found then a biopsy is performed, whereby a piece of the abnormal tissue is cut and placed under a microscope for examination. After confirming the diagnosis of mesothelioma, it is also essential to know its steps whether it is In a localized or advanced stage.

In the localized phase, the cancer is found in the wall of the rib cage or membrane or lung. Advanced mesothelioma can again be divided into 3 stages namely stage II, III and IV. In Phase II, the cancer spreads beyond the chest wall to the lymph nodes and in Phase III it spreads into the chest wall, the center of the chest, the heart, through the diaphragm or Abdominal wall, etc. The final or fourth stage is that of which the cancer has already spread Distant organs.Treatment Depending on the stage of cancer, its location and health, age and medical history of the patient, 3 Types of treatments are coupled to mesothelioma patients – surgery (to remove the tumor), radiation therapy (application of high energy rays) and chemotherapy (use of combination drugs). This aside, if there is an accumulation of fluid in the chest or abdomen, then the doctor needs to empty the out and the process is considered thoracentesis and paracentesis respectively. So be aware of the disease, so you can prevent it from the very beginning
